Hello, everyone! I was tagged by Georgia @Lost In Neverland, who participated in The Fantasy Winter Retreat Book Tag. She’s brought some fabulous characters along with her on her snow-filled retreat, so I highly recommend “popping” in on the fun!
The Fantasy Winter Retreat Book Tag summary
You get to go on a week-long retreat to chill and have fun after the stressful 2020 experience. Set the scene of your dream winter retreat and, using the prompts, round up the characters you’d like to vacation with!
Step One: Travel destination and accommodation
Ah, snow. The dandruff of clouds. I live in a place where it’s warm all-year round, so, we’re really going to have to make this winter retreat count, right? I choose Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, a castle-like hotel on the eastern shore of Lake Louise. Located near Banff, Alberta, the hotel offers a stunning view of the lake and majestic snowy mountains. What a sight! Perfect atmosphere for reading after a busy day.
Step Two: Who’s Joining!?
A fun character who’s presence would cheer up any situation:
Nikolai Lantsov from Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse. Yes, I’d haul him around the world at every given opportunity. He has such an enigmatic yet warm presence that brings people together.
A character who would parent everyone:
Remus Lupin from the Harry Potter series. He would have chocolate ready for tumbles and scraped knees. That works for me, because, I don’t know how to ice skate, ski, or do any other winter recreational activity. I should tell him to buy bandages in bulk as well.
A character who would plan games and other activities:
Nina Zenik from the Six of Crows duology. She is such a fun-loving and free-spirited character, so I can really see her seizing the moment and planning our itinerary to make sure every moment counts. She’s also the type of person who wouldn’t mind impromptu fun! She’d probably figure out where all the great eateries are at too, which is a must for any vacation.
A character who would rather cozy up in blankets and sleep/laze around all day:
Dorian Hallivard from Throne of Glass series. He’d probably look outside at the snow and ice and say, “Yeah, I can make that stuff myself. That’s not anything special.” He still has a fun-loving nature going for him, but also loves to read. So, I don’t think he’d mind spending a few days sharing some fantastic books surrounded by the spectacular view. What books do you think he’d recommend?
A character who had to cancel other plans to be here:
Elisa from The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy. I’d invite her because she could really use a break from ruling a kingdom. I think she’d make a great traveling companion too! She seems like the type of person who’d be down for anything – sampling yummy treats, sightseeing, or just talking about anything from silly jokes to world peace next to the warmth of a fireplace.
A character who brought their work along with them:
Legend from the Caraval series. By bringing his work with him, I mean he’s going to compete with Nina in planning some spellbinding fun. There won’t be a dull moment with these two stepping up to the challenge!
A character who would not leave their partner’s side:
Jacin Clay from Marissa Meyer’s The Lunar Chronicles series. I love his protective nature towards Winter, but this guy seriously needs to chill sometimes. What better way to achieve that than to throw an endless barrage of magical snowballs at him? I’d totally coax Dorian to throw as many snowballs as possible.
A character who is amused by everyone’s antics:
Juniper Eastwood from The Once and Future Witches. This courageous lady went through so many ordeals, when all she wanted to do was run free in the woods and live life to the fullest. I think she’d have a great time watching everyone cut loose and enjoy themselves. Oh, but she’d participate too, of course!
And there’s the rundown of my magical wintry vacation! Please feel free to join me and all of these book characters! Oh, and let me know if you have any ideas for fun (and mischief)!
